Kristín Marja Baldursdóttir is an Icelandic author born in Hafnarfjörður, a fishing community situated about ten kilometres south-west of Reykjavik. She qualified as a teacher in 1970, read German in Bremen 1979–1980 and pedagogy in Denmark 1985–1986. In 1991 she graduated from the University of Iceland with a degree in German and Icelandic and in 1992 she read journalism in Germany. Kristín taught in Reykjavik until 1988 when she started to work as a journalist at the daily Morgunblaðið, a job she left in 1995.
