The American author Ray Douglas Bradbury was born in Waukegan, Illinois, to an American father and a Swedish mother. The family periodically lived in Tuscon, Arizona, before settling in Los Angeles where Bradbury remained for the rest of his life. He began to write at an early age and became a full-time author in 1943, mainly contributing to science fiction and crime fiction magazines. He also published his own fanzine, Futuria Fantasia. Bradbury’s early short stories are collected in Dark Carnival, published in 1947, the same year he married Marguerite McClure. The couple had four daughters.
