The Icelandic author Steinar Bragi grew up in Reykjavik. After graduation he read comparative literature and philosophy at the University of Iceland. He made his debut in 1998 with the poetry collection Svarthól, and two years later he published his first novel, Turninn. In the early 2000s he was involved in the avant-garde poetry collective Nýhil and he also wrote a number of books in various genres. He has travelled extensively all over the world, mostly in the United States. He has lived in New York and Ecuador.
