The American doctor and author, William ‘Bill’ Brittain, had a somewhat unusual literary career. As William Brittain he wrote crime stories – but only short stories! – while all of his books for young adults are novels published under the name Bill Brittain. In both genres, he is a respected name; some of his short stories have acquired classic status and his books for young readers have been nominated for various prizes and won at least one of them.
