Cole, Margaret

Margaret Cole was born in Cambridge, and was the elder sister of the author, journalist and social historian Raymond Postgate (1896–1971), to whom she was very close. She started her schooling at Roedean School in Brighton, and went on to study at Cambridge University, where she studied Classical Literature until 1914. The same year, she became a teacher at St.Paul’s Girl’s School in London before starting to work at the Labour Research Department in 1917.
