Peter Robert Corris was an Australian author, historian, journalist and pioneering author of crime fiction in Australia. Corris was born in Stawell, Victoria. The family moved to Melbourne when he was five years old. He attended Melbourne High School, graduating in 1959, and went on to study at the University of Melbourne. In 1964 he began to read history at Monash University, Melbourne, where he was awarded an MA in 1966. He was awarded a PhD, also in history, from the Australian National University, Canberra, in 1970.
