For a long time, there was speculation as to who could lie behind the crime-writer pseudonym Arne Dahl. Considering the literary qualities and that it was obvious that he was a person who had read widely, a lot of people guessed that it must be an established author – or possibly a collective. With his series of novels about the so-called A-group, most readers wanted, at any rate, to place him in the ‘elite division’ of Swedish crime writers, on a level with names like Henning Mankell, Håkan Nesser and Åke Edwardson. Early in December, 2002, author Jan Arnald stepped forward and confirmed that he was the person who had been hiding behind the crime-writer pseudonym.
