Michael Dibdin was a British crime writer born in Wolverhampton. His father was a teacher. The family moved to Northern Ireland in 1954 where Dibdin went to school until 1965. He graduated with a degree in English from the University of Sussex, Brighton, in 1968. He then attended teachers college at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, graduating in 1969. He worked in various professions around western Canada between 1969 and 1975 after which he returned to the UK and settled in Oxford.
