The writer, broadcaster and critic Sarah Dunant was born in London. She attended Godolphin and Latymer School and Newnham College, Cambridge, graduating with a first in history in 1973. She was also involved in theatre while at Cambridge. She was a radio producer at the BBC between 1974 and 1976. As of 1977 she is a freelance journalist and author. She has travelled extensively, primarily in Asia and South America, and she has produced features from Japan and India.
