Freeling, Nicolas

Nicholas Freeling was born Nicolas Davidson in London. His parents were English, but his mother had Dutch roots and the family shared their time between England and Brittany in France, which means that their children’s schooling was constantly interrupted. While they were living in England in 1940, their home in Southampton was hit by a German bomb. The parents separated around this time, and when their father died some time later their mother moved with her children to Ireland and she changed her name to Freeling, her maiden name.
