Greene, Graham

Henry Graham Greene was a British author and journalist born in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, who became one of the foremost names in the history of 20th century English literature. His parents, who were first cousins, both came from a large and influential family, Greene’s father was a teacher and headmaster at Berkhamsted School. Greene had five siblings, his brother Hugh became head of the BBC and Raymond was a well-known physician and adventurer. Graham and Hugh later collaborated on the anthology The Spy’s Bedside Book (1957). Graham Greene was able to read from the age of six and quickly fell in love with detective stories.
