The English author Domenica Maxted – known as a crime writer under the pseudonym Elly Griffiths – was born in London as Domenica de Rosa. Her father is of Italian descent, her mother English. When Domenica was five years old, the family moved to Brighton, and she has lived in or just outside the city virtually all her life. She went to local schools, and in 1981 started to study at King’s College in London. She graduated with a B.A in English and Literature in 1984 and got her M.A. in English the following year.
