Holt, Anne

Anne Holt is a Norwegian crime writer born in Larvik. She read law at the University of Bergen, graduating in 1986. She then worked as a news anchor for the Norwegian broadcasting corporation news programme Dagsrevyen and as a news reporter. She has also worked for the Oslo Police Department (1988–1990). In 1991, she opened her own law firm. When Thorbjørn Jagland, the then prime minister, presented his new government in October 1996, he chose Anne Holt as his Minister of Justice. She resigned from the post in February 1997 for health reasons. In 2000, she registered partnership with Tine Kjœr, editor at Cappelen publishers, at the Norwegian embassy in Stockholm. Although Anne Holt has, at times, been criticised by the gay movement in Norway for not being open enough about her sexual orientation, she is clear about it in her books.
