The German author Felicitas Hoppe was born to a Roman Catholic family in Hameln, Lower Saxony, as the third of five children. She left school in 1980 to study literature, rhetoric, religion and languages at Hildesheim, Tübingen, Berlin and Rome; she graduated from the University of Oregon in 1985 with a Master of Arts. Alongside her studies, Hoppe worked as a language teacher and journalist. She has been a full-time author since 1996.
