Norwegian author born in Oslo where he grew up in a working-class suburb, but he spent his teenage years in North Norway. Roy Jacobsen has worked, among other things, on a whaler, as a carpenter, teacher and psychiatric nurse assistant. His wife is Belgian and he has spent long periods abroad. He supported the European Union up until a referendum was held in the predominately EU-critical country.
