The Norwegian author and scholar Karl Ove Knausgård was born in Oslo and raised at Tromøya, Arendal and Kristiansand. Knausgård and his older brother grew up in a middle-class home – their father was a teacher. At eighteen, he worked as a temp teacher in Håfjord in Northern Norway, at nineteen he enrolled at the Skrivekunstakademiet creative writing academy in Hordaland where he was taught by, among others, Jon Fosse and Ragnar Hovland. Karl Ove Knausgård has also studied literature and history of art at the University of Bergen.
