Stieg Larsson was a Swedish author and journalist who, despite only publishing three novels, is one of Sweden’s best-selling authors of fiction ever, both at home and abroad. He was born as Karl Stig-Erland Larsson in Skelleftehamn, but since his parents were only nineteen years old and had no money at the time, he was brought up by his grandparents, initially in the small village of Utviken and later on a farm called Måggliden near Bjursele, Västerbotten province. When his grandfather died in 1962, he moved in with his parents and younger brother in Umeå where he attended school. He left home at the age of 16.
