Norwegian poet, novelist and author of books for children, Ruth Lillegraven was born in Granvin in Hardanger, and grew up on a little farm there. She attended Voss gymnasium school 1994–97, and subsequently studied marketing and information technology at Norges Markedshøyskole 1997–2000. She then worked for the Norwegian publishing house (culture and textbooks) Det Norske Samlaget 2001–07, and from 2007 to 2015 – when she became a full-time writer – was employed in in the Norwegian government department for communications. There, in 2009, she met civil servant Thomas Ruud Sollien who surprised her by knowing about her poetry: they are now married, have two children and live in Lommedalen in Bærum.
