Spanish author and journalist born in Valencia as the fourth of nine siblings. The family moved to the outskirts of Madrid in 1952. He attended a private Catholic school near his home where he was a curious, but lazy student. He studied in the evenings and worked at a savings bank during the day. Millás enrolled at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid where he studied philosophy and literature until 1968 when he abandoned his studies to concentrate on his own reading and writing. Up until the beginning of the 1992, he had to take on odd jobs to make a living, working as a puppeteer, teacher and office clerk. He married his first wife in 1968 and his second wife, Isabel Menéndez, in 1987.
