Mo Yan

Pseudonym for Guan Moye, a Chinese author born to poor farmers in Gaomi, northeast Shandong province. His father only went to school for four years and later became an accountant. His mother gave birth to six children of which only four survived. The household consisted of thirty-one people sharing a five-room house.
