The American poet Sylvia Plath was born in Boston. Her mother, Aurelia Schober, met Professor Otto Plath while attending the University of Boston. They were married in 1932 and Sylvia Plath was born later the same year. After her father died from diabetes when Sylvia was eight years old, her mother worked as a teacher, bringing up Sylvia and her younger brother on her own.
