The Scottish solicitor and author C. (Christopher) J. (John) Sansom was born and grew up in the city of Edinburgh: his father was English, his mother Scottish. After finishing school, he attended George Watson’s College in his home city, but left without taking an exam: he has said himself that he was bullied so much that he decided to drop out. Instead, he began to study in England, at the University of Birmingham, where he first gained a B.A. in History and later a Ph.D. in the same subject. He subsequently had a number of temporary jobs, before re-training and becoming a solicitor.
