Jan-Philipp Sendker is a German journalist and author. From 1990 to 1995, he was the correspondent in America for the German magazine Stern. From 1995 to 1999 he was the magazine’s Asian correspondent and from 1999 he has worked full-time as an author. He lives in Potsdam outside Berlin with his wife and three children. Jan-Philipp Sendker is fascinated by Asia and has made several journeys in China and in the Burma which he describes in his first work of fiction: The Art of Hearing Heartbeats (2002, Das Herzenhören). He had previously published a reportage about China, Risse in der grossen Mauer (2000).
