The Norwegian author Dag Solstad was born in Sandefjord. After finishing school he worked for a year as a journalist on a local newspaper before enrolling at the University of Oslo. Having joined the magazine Profil in the mid-1960s, he used it to promote modernist prose poetry in Norway.
