Vulliamy, C.E.

The British author and journalist, C.E. (Colwyn Edward) Vulliamy, was born into a well-off family in the little village of Glasbury in Wales, not far from the town Hay-on-Wye. Little is known about his life besides his writing: he was taught privately, but also studied Art 1910-13 under the well-known artist Stanhope Forbes in Cornwall. In 1916, Vulliamy married Eileen Hynes, a marriage which lasted until her death in 1943; the couple had two children. During the First World War, he was a soldier in France, Macedonia and Turkey – he described his experiences in the anonymously-published autobiographical novel Fusilier Bluff (1934). At his death in 1971, he was a member of scientific and literary associations such as the Royal Anthropological Institute and the Royal Society of Literature.
