Wetering, Janwillem van de

Janwillem (actually Jan Willem) van de Wetering was a Dutch author born in Rotterdam to a merchant family. After graduating with a degree in business administration, van de Wetering travelled to Cape Town at the age of nineteen. He had been offered a job by one of his father’s business contacts, but he lost it when he refused to move to Johannesburg. He remained in South Africa for another six years doing a variety of jobs. It was there he married his first wife, a local artist.
